Frequently asked questions
What is a credit card devaluation?
A devaluation is any change that reduces what a card earns or what its rewards are worth: a lower reward rate, a new monthly cap, a category moved to the exclusion list, a surcharge on rent or utility spend, or a redemption route being narrowed. Indian issuers usually announce these in a terms-and-conditions update rather than a press release.
How does CardMasters record these changes?
Each entry is transcribed from the issuer's own published terms, tied to a specific card, and dated with the day CardMasters last checked that source. This page currently records 167 changes across 60 active cards, 7 of them with an issuer-stated effective date.
How can I tell if my own card has been devalued?
Open your card's page on CardMasters and check the recorded change list and evidence date against your last statement. If the earn on a category dropped without your spending changing, a cap or exclusion is the usual cause.
Can I reuse this data?
Yes, with attribution to CardMasters and a link to this page or the specific card page. Always follow the issuer-source link before republishing a figure, since terms can change after our check date.
